Man who drove body to police station charged with murder

PETALING JAYA: A security guard who allegedly killed his "lover" in her car and drove her body to a police station before surrendering himself was charged in a magistrate's court here.

Clad in a white round neck t-shirt and a pair of jeans, M. Gunasegaran, 37, nodded to indicate that he understood the charge read to him before magistrate Nor Ariffin Hisham on Tuesday (Feb 13).

No plea was recorded.

Seen sitting in the public gallery were his elder sister D. Gunavathi, 39, and his father M. Devarajoo, 67.

Gunasegaran was accused of murdering D. Tharani, 35, at Giant hypermarket parking lot in Kota Damansara here at 1.50pm on Feb 5.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The court later fixed Apr 13 for mention.

Counsel M. Manoharan is holding a watching brief for the victim's family.

On Feb 5, it was reported that a man had allegedly killed his girlfriend in her car and then drove the car with the body in the front seat to the Damansara police station to surrender.

The police also found a sharp object in the car which was believed to be the murder weapon.
