GOMBAK: A syndicate which smuggled ecstasy into Indonesia was busted with the arrest of seven of its members and the seizure of some RM4.5mil worth of the drug.
The suspects – five men and two women – were detained following multiple raids in Rawang, Gombak and Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Feb 5) between 7.30pm and 10.30pm.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Kang Chez Chiang said the syndicate had been operating for more than six months.
“They export the drugs to Indonesia as the street value there is between three and 10 times more than in Malaysia.
“With the drugs seized, we have managed to prevent 145,000 addicts from getting their supply," he told a press conference on Wednesday.
Among the other items seized during the raids was equipment used to process drugs.
