Deputy GM, project director among seven arrested for corruption

PETALING JAYA: A deputy general manager and a project director of a property developer were among seven people arrested for allegedly misusing their position to solicit and receive bribes from contractors.

They were picked up on Monday (Feb 5) in Johor, Shah Alam, Klang and Melaka.

Initial investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) revealed that the deputy general manager, 44, and the project director, 55, had allegedly awarded a landscaping project worth RM44mil to eight companies.

It is learnt that they allegedly solicited for bribes in exchange for ensuring the contractors would receive full payment for their monthly claims.

Investigators found suspicious payments of more than RM2.4mil in the bank accounts of the deputy general manager and his wife, made through four proxies.

The MACC has since frozen 15 bank accounts belonging to the deputy general manager and the contractors.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operation) Datuk Seri Azam Baki said various documents had been seized for investigations.

He added that the seven suspects will be remanded at the Putrajaya magistrate's court on Tuesday (Feb 6).
