Netizens: Court's decision to nullify unilateral conversion sets future precedent

PETALING JAYA: Many netizens were happy with the Federal Court's decision to nullify the unilateral conversion of M. Indira Gandhi's (pic) three children to Islam by her ex-husband, calling it a welcome precedent for future cases.

On Facebook, Monday (Jan 29), Heng Siang Yu said the judgment has set the "best example for all future disputes".

Edward Hyde said he was glad the judges ruled in favour of the mother.

"Finally, we can put to rest this case and any future unilateral conversion cases," he said.

KLoy Ho said he was happy for Indira Gandhi and described the decision as fair and just.

"Most importantly, it was a unanimous decision," he said.

Eugene Ter concurred that it was "great news".

Sivaneswaran Sivananten also said justice has prevailed and called for the children and the mother to not be separated from each other again.

Sugumaran Nathan said the court decision made his day.

"At last justice has been given to the mother after battling so hard," he said.

Anis Hussain said she wished Indira would be reunited with her youngest daughter Prasana Diksa soon.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamed Fuzi Haron has promised that police will find Prasana, who was taken away by Indira's ex-husband Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, when she was only 11 months old. She is now nine.

"Hope this will be a lesson to those who want to convert because of a loophole in the system," she said.

William Leong said: "We pray and hope that the IGP walks the talk."

Earlier, Indira Gandhi's nine-year legal tussle finally ended when the Federal Court ruled in her favour, nullifying the unilateral conversion of her three children to Islam by her ex-husband.
