Brahim’s set to spread its wings

SEPANG: After conquering the sky and airlines’ halal catering industry, the nation’s ready-to-eat gourmet meal specialist, Brahim’s SATS Food Services (BSFS), is poised to spread its wings to other lucrative markets.

Brahim’s Holding Bhd executive chairman Datuk Seri Ibrahim Ahmad Badawi announced that the company will ink a five-year deal with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to provide total food and beverage solutions for its Electric Train Service (ETS).

“We plan to sign the deal by this month for a five-plus, five-year contract to provide our services for ETS,” he said after a media tour of Brahim’s main catering processing hub at MAS Complex in conjunction with 30th anniversary of the Brahim’s brand and the 15th anniversary of BSFS airline catering services.

Ibrahim said the contract was part of the company’s strategic move to expand its core expertise into non-airline catering sectors.

“Food catering makes up 80% of our business of which 90% is from airline catering.

“At present, our non-airline business stands at 4% and we hope to expand this to 10% by the end of this year,” he said.

Ibrahim said this was achievable as the company’s catering processing hub is able to dish out some 60,000 meals a day.

“Our flight kitchen produces an average of about 45,000 to 50,000 meals a day which means we have an access capacity of 10,000 meals, which can be used for supplying ETS,” he said.

He said BSFS currently supplies complete ready-to-eat meals to 32 airlines that operate 270 daily flights out of the country, which include four of the top world airlines according to Skytrax Airline Survey 2017 – Qatar Airways, ANA All Nippon Airways, Emirates and Cathay Pacific.

Besides this, he said Brahim’s wide range of products are sold in global markets, with Brahim’s Dewina Group continuing its role as an international leader in halal food production industry.

The company has 43 Brahim’s products approved in 11 countries, including Japan, Australia and Europe, and are setting up halal food production in Jordan.
