Mother and grandmother detained over toddler's death


KULAI: A two-year-old toddler from Indahpura here has died of suspected abuse.

Kulai OCPD Supt Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said that police received a report from Hospital Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim on Jan 3 over the case.

He said police detained the victim's 18-year-old mother and 56-year-old grandmother at the hospital on Wednesday.

"Initial investigations show that the victim's ears were injured and bruises were found on his head,'' he said in a statement on Thursday.

Supt Dzulkhairi said the victim's mother, who works as a cashier, had brought the child to the hospital at around 7.30pm.

He said an examination of the body revealed signs of past bruising on the victim's back and his throat was filled with water.

The suspects have been remanded for seven days from Thursday.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
