Cops on the trail of Cheras jewellery thieves

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are hot on the trail of the 10 men responsible for stealing RM1.5mil worth of jewellery from a goldsmith shop at a shopping mall in Taman Segar, Cheras here on Sunday (Dec 31) night.

“We are in the midst of hunting them down. We are exploring all angles in our investigation,” said Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji when contacted.

It was reported that the suspects, all wearing full-face helmets and gloves, stormed into the premises where five employees, including a security guard, were working at about 8.30pm on Sunday.

Five of the men rushed into the shop and smashed the glass display cabinets, while five other accomplices waited outside the mall on motorcycles.

They took about three minutes to escape with the jewellery.

The forensic team found evidence such as cigarette butts that could be linked to the case.

ACP Abdul Ghani urged anyone with information to contact the nearest police station as soon as possible.

“We hope the public can also assist us in providing any information relating to the incident.

“We want to apprehend the culprits as soon as possible,” he said.
