KUALA SELANGOR: The Minority Rights Action Party (Mira), formerly known as New Generation Party, has announced its support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan's prime minister candidate.

The announcement was made at a Pakatan ceramah here organised by Mira on Sunday.

Mira president Rajaretinam Armuggan, in his speech, said that Dr Mahathir's return to politics would be able to lead the Opposition coalition in winning in all the states in Peninsular Malaysia in the general election.

He added that Mira is not asking for seats in the 14th general election as the party's intention is to help Pakatan win.

"We are strongly behind Pakatan Harapan and we will support them even though we are not members of the coalition," he said, adding that the party intends to convince all minorities to vote for the Opposition.

The event on Sunday also saw 300 former MIC members from 15 MIC branches that have closed down apply to join Mira.

Former Sabak Bernam MIC division chief Kanniappan Pitchaikaran handed over the membership forms to Rajaretinam during the event in the presence of Dr Mahathir, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo.
