'I will hunt down Zaid', says Jamal Yunos

KUALA LUMPUR: Two days after issuing a warning to Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos said he would “hunt down” the DAP leader if he is not arrested for allegedly insulting the Selangor Sultan.

Jamal, the Sungai Besar Umno division chief, paraded two cutouts resembling Zaid at the Putra World Trade Centre here where the Umno General Assembly is being held.

He urged those attending the assembly to hit the cutouts with sledgehammers he provided, and hinted that he would take the law into his own hands if the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission do not act against the former de facto law minister.

“If Zaid remains free tomorrow, I will personally hunt him down. I know where he lives,” he told reporters on Friday.

Jamal, who also heads the Red Shirts movement, alleged that the authorities practised double standards.

“If it were me (who said it), it wouldn’t take long for me to be arrested,” he said.

He also asked the PKR-led Selangor government why it was silent on the matter.

“Where are (Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri) Azmin (Ali) and his state exco members? They’re the ones who should be defending the Sultan,” he said.

On Wednesday (Dec 6), Jamal burnt two effigies resembling Zaid in an earlier show of protest.

This was all in response to Zaid’s criticism of Sultan Sharifuddin Idris Shah, who had told The Star in an exclusive interview that the deliberate use of sensitive issues to gain political mileage would destroy the country.

The Selangor Ruler had also criticised former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for attacking the Bugis in his political battle against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
