Fiery find: Police investigators in plain clothes getting a closer view of the torched car that was found about 100m from where Liu

SUNGAI PETANI: A chef has been detained to help with investigations into the murder of Liu Chee Wei, 25, who was found dead with a stab wound on his chest in Taman Arked.

Kuala Muda OCPD ACP Saifi Abdul Hamid said the suspect, in his 20s, was a friend of the victim and also the owner of the torched car which was found about 100m away from the body.

“The suspect, who works as a chef in Penang, is remanded for three days starting today to assist in the investigation.

“He was detained in Sungai Petani about 8.30pm on Monday,” he said in a statement yester-day.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

On Monday, police received a call regarding the discovery of a body at about 3.07pm.

ACP Saifi said then that initial probe showed the victim was from Nibong Tebal in Penang and he came here driving his friend’s car.

“We believe two men, who were known to the victim, were involved in the incident.

“Robbery has been ruled out as he still had his valuables,” he said.

ACP Saifi added that there were marks on Liu’s body which could be the result of a scuffle.
