KUALA LUMPUR: Eight foreigners have been remanded for three days to facilitate investigations into an incident where several policemen were attacked by a group of men on Saturday night.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Shaharudin Abdullah said on Sunday that eight suspects have been remanded until Tuesday (Nov 14).

ACP Shaharudin said that 68 men, all Chinese nationals, were brought back to the Dang Wangi police headquarters following the incident, and 60 of them were released after their particulars were recorded.

He said that the incident occurred at about 10.40pm on Saturday (Nov 11).

"Several policemen on patrol received a tip-off about illegal gambling activity along Jalan Abraham and went to investigate," said ACP Shaharudin.

"The policemen were checking the front porch of a house where tables and chairs were set up when a group of at least 20 men attacked them," he added.

He described the scene as "chaotic" and added that police were forced to fire four warning shots in self-defence.

"The situation was brought under control. No one was injured but a group of men were taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters for further action," he said.

"Based on our investigations, at least 200 Chinese nationals live in the vicinity of the scene," he said.
