Penang gives RM100mil in various aid to flood victims

GEORGE TOWN: The state government announced a series of programmes worth RM100mil in aid of flood victims.

Known as 'Bangkit Pulau Pinang', Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng made the special announcement during the state legislative assembly on Thursday (Nov 9).

Under the programme, each household affected by the floods will receive a one-off payment of RM500. This will cost the state government RM50mil.

The Penang Water Supply Corporation is also giving a 50% discount for domestic users, and 25% discount for commercial users.

The water conservation surcharge for domestic users will also be exempted. The discount for one cycle (two months) will amount to RM10mil.

Local authorities - Penang Island City Council and Seberang Prai Municipal Council - will also give a 10% discount in assessment rate amounting to RM40mil.

The House also observed a one-minute silence during the proceeding.
