KANGAR: Police officers and personnel might not be considered for promotions if they are found to be overweight.

Bukit Aman internal security and public order department director Comm Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said that every personnel and officer had to pass the Body Mass Index (BMI) threshold to ensure they have the ideal body weight.

He said this was to instil a culture of healthy living in the police force so that they could perform their duties well.

He was speaking to reporters after a cycling programme to prevent crime in Perlis on Wednesday.

Comm Zulkifli and officers from Perlis also took part in 20km bicycle ride, that also saw the participation of Perlis police chief Datuk Azisman Alias.

He said the programme was in line with the objective of the “Trim and Fit” programme that was introduced last year to ensure there was an improvement in the health of police personnel. – Bernama
