SIBU: Lau Boh Ing’s five-year wait for justice for her late son finally ended when the High Court found his wife guilty of his murder.
“It has been a very painful time for me,” Lau, 69, said after the court sentenced Ling Hang Tsyr to hang for the death of HSBC branch manager Wong Jing Kui.
“I wish to thank DPP Fillani Siji for fighting hard in the case and the judge for making the right judgment,” said Lau, who has filed a civil suit for custody of Wong’s five-year-old son.
Yesterday, Justice Nurchaya Arshad said the prosecution had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Ling, a bank credit recovery clerk, was involved in the murder of Wong, 31.
“Upon considering all evidence provided, the court sentences the accused to death,” she said after delivering the verdict.
On June 14, the court ordered Ling, 36, to enter her defence after it found that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against her.
She and her boyfriend Tiong King Guan, 35, were accused of abetting the principal accused, Ling Hoe Ing, 28, in killing Wong at his Jalan Ulu Sg Merah home at about 1.30am on June 14, 2012.
Hoe Ing owed Tiong RM10,000 at the time.
Both Ling and Tiong faced an amended charge under Section 109 of the Penal Code for abetment, read with Section 302 for murder, which carries a mandatory death sentence on conviction.
Tiong is still at large while Hoe Ing was jailed 16 years after he pleaded guilty on Oct 1, 2013, to an alternative charge of culpable homicide.
Justice Nurchaya ordered that Ling be held in the Kuching Prison pending the outcome of her appeal against the sentence.
Sibu CID chief Deputy Supt Yeoh Chun Shyan said police are continuing the search for Tiong with Interpol’s help.
DSP Yeoh said anyone who knows Tiong’s whereabouts should contact the police at 084-322 222 or 084-336 268 (ext 244).
Wong’s family is also offering a RM50,000 reward for information leading to Tiong’s arrest.
