Cops looking for trailer driver involved in fatal accident on NSE

SEREMBAN: Police are looking for the driver of a trailer who was allegedly involved in a fatal accident on the North-South Expressway near here on Friday (Oct 27) evening.

Nilai OCPD Supt Zaldino Zaludin said the driver — identified as P. Kanes, 29, from Jalan Tembusu, Bukit Rotan in Selangor — should contact police soon to assist in the investigation.

"We cannot establish who was driving the trailer then but we need him to come forward and assist in our probe," he said.

A couple was killed and three others injured in the accident involving the trailer and three cars at KM270 of the highway.

The dead have been identified as Lau Lian Huat, 62, and his wife Lim Ah Gim, 60, from Pulau Gadong, Melaka.

Supt Zaldino said the couple, who were travelling south, were killed on the spot in the 5.30pm accident.

It is learnt that the driver of the north-bound trailer had lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash through the guardrail and plough into oncoming traffic.

The injured were the 45-year-old driver of one of the cars, Azian Saleh, and her 42-year-old passenger, Abdul Rahman Ramlee.

The driver of another car Mohammad Tahir Othman, 51, from Seremban was also hurt.

The lorry driver is believed to have fled the scene moments after the accident which caused a massive traffic jam along both lanes of the expressway.
