Father arrested for chaining son to gas tank

KUANTAN: A man allegedly chained his 10-year-old son to a gas tank with at a house in Indera Mahkota here.

The 32-year-old father was arrested when a team from the Kuantan Police Headquarters Criminal Investigations Department entered the house after they were tipped-off by the public on Thursday.

Kuantan police chief Asst Comm Abdul Aziz Salleh said when arrived at the house, they tried knocking on the front door but there was no answer.

After looking into the window behind the house, police saw a child clad only in pants, chained by his neck to a gas tank.

He said the police then forced their way into the house and tried to wake up the boy but he remained unconcious.

"The police called an ambulance from Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) to take the victim to the hospital as he had injuries on his neck due to the chain," said Abdul Aziz.

"Early investigations reveal the child was tied up because he did not go to school the day before."

The suspect is a soldier at Kem Batu 10, Jalan Gambang and that the boy is the third of five siblings.

"We have arrested the father and mother to assist investigations," he said.

The couple will be remanded for a week and are being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act.
