IPOH: A Form Four student climbed 18m up a water tank tower at her school in Bagan Serai, about 90km from here and threatened to jump off.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said firemen who arrived at SMK Abu Bakar Al-Baqir after receiving a distress call at 10.55am, found the girl climbing along the railing of the water tank, about 18m off the ground.

"She was in a state of hysteria and could not be persuaded to come down.

"After about 45 minutes, our men managed to grab hold of her as she tried to climb down the water tank.

"We brought her down from the tower and handed her to school authorities," he said.
