PETALING JAYA: The suspect who allegedly planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on his former girlfriend’s car has been released on police bail.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said the 28-year-old electrical technician was released yesterday.
“He was released after the initial extension of his remand order.
“We are waiting for a decision by the Deputy Public Prosecutor before proceeding further,” he said yesterday.
The suspect was originally scheduled to be held until Thursday, but had his remand extended for an additional day to assist in investigations.
It was reported that on July 8, a nurse heard a beeping noise from her car while driving home and upon inspection she found a device stuck to the bumper of the vehicle.
A police bomb disposal unit was dispatched to the scene in Kapar, and the device was safely disposed of at about 2.30am on Sunday. It was later confirmed that the device was an IED.
Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ab Rashid Ab Wahab had previously stated that the device would not have likely caused serious injuries.
It was also previously reported that the man was believed to be dissatisfied with how his relationship with the nurse ended, which led to the incident.
Sources also said the man was a guarantor for the woman’s car loan, but that she had not kept up with her payments.
The case has been classified as criminal intimidation and making and possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances.
