KUALA LUMPUR: Two employees of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd found friendship after they managed to reunite a train passenger with valuables worth RM10,000 that he accidentally left behind on the LRT.
The duo joined 111 others as the first group of employees honoured under the Prasarana Employee Appreciation & Recognition for Life programme (Pearl), where staff members were presented with certificates and cash gifts of RM50 each.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd employees Mohd Zahini Che Din and Zul Amirul Zulkifli were singled out for their role in the Feb 2 incident, where a frantic passenger approached Mohd Zahini, who was the Ampang LRT station controller, for help in finding his Prada bag.
“The man was in his 30s, and he was clearly upset.
“I immediately informed the control centre, who then contacted the train driver of the carriage which the passenger had taken earlier,” he said at the Pearl award ceremony here yesterday.
Within minutes, train driver Zul Amirul found the bag, which was left in one of the four carriages.
“I did not open it but kept it until Mohd Zahini arrived with the passenger, who was so relieved,” he said, not knowing that the bag worth RM7,000 contained RM3,000 in cash.
The incident saw Mohd Zahini, 29, from Kelantan and Zul Amirul, 26, from Puchong, becoming friends.
On the motivation behind their good deed, Mohd Zahini and Zul Amirul said Prasarana had instilled the values of honesty and attitude of going the extra mile for passengers.
Prasarana president and group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmi Aziz said the Pearl award was created last November to recognise outstanding behaviour and excellence among its staff numbering 9,500.
Azmi added that such deeds will shore up confidence in urban public transport, which the Government is hoping will host at least 40% of journeys by 2030.
