JOHOR BARU: An indoor theme park, said to be the first of its kind in the world, will be built in Iskandar Malaysia this year – making Johor the state with the most theme parks in the country.

State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said the RM200mil facility “uses state-of-the-art technology with science-related features and attractions”.

Tee said the project, located in Iskandar Puteri, was a joint venture between a Malaysian and a Singapore-based company.

“They have forwarded technical applications to the relevant authorities,” he said.

He said Johor Baru’s proximity to Singapore was an added advantage as it would be able to attract visitors from there as well as other countries in the region.

“Another outdoor theme park is also coming to Iskandar Malaysia and if everything goes well, we can expect to see it within the next one to two years,” Tee said.

He said the outdoor theme park, aimed at families and young adults further reaffirms Johor’s position as a leading player in Malaysia’s leisure industry.

Legoland Malaysia is Asia’s first Lego theme park, opening in 2012 in Iskandar Puteri and has since included a water park and a hotel.
