Motorcyclist killed by burst lorry tyre in freak accident

PETALING JAYA: A motorcyclist was killed in a freak accident involving a lorry that had burst a tyre on the North-South Expressway Monday.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt R. Supramaniam said the motorcyclist, Hesham Ismail, 52, died at the scene after he was hit by a piece of the burst tyre at KM429.8 southbound, near Kuala Kubu Baru here.

"The lorry was travelling along the North-South Expressway. The rear right tyre exploded and a piece that had fallen off struck the motorcyclist who was riding behind," he said.

Hesham died from grievous head injuries, he added.

Supt Supramaniam said a post-mortem will be conducted and the case is being investigated as reckless driving under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
