Cops praised for keeping it cool

KUALA LUMPUR: The police were lauded for their professional conduct in preventing clashes between Bersih and the Red Shirts.

“The police did an exceptional job in keeping the peace and public order. We are glad no untoward incidents occurred,” said Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Datuk Azwanndin Hamzah.

JMM is one of the NGOs in the Red Shirts coalition.

Through its Twitter handle, Bersih 2.0 also thanked the police for their assistance in keeping the peace.

“With the cooperation of the police, Bersih 5 ended peacefully and successfully,” it said.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar also congratulated his men for exceptional work in challenging conditions.

“They have shown utmost restrain and professionalism in preventing any untoward incident from occurring,” he said.

Social activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir also tweeted that the police were “very good” yesterday.

“Just did their job and kept the peace. We all felt very secure. Thank you!”
