SEPANG: Olympic and Paralympic coaches will receive more for their hard work in helping Malaysia win medals in the games.

The coaches are now entitled to 30% of the amount given to athletes who win medals.

The money is paid separately under the National Sports Council (NSC) incentive scheme.

Previously, the sum was 20%.

The announcement was made by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin at Komplex Bunga Raya in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after the arrival of the Malaysian Rio 2016 Paralympic contingent here on Thursday.

"I would like to announce that for the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, coaches will receive incentives of 30% of the amount received by the athletes," said Khairy.

"For example, if Ridzuan (sprinter Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi) receives RM1mil, this means that his coach will get RM300,000," Khairy explained.

The three coaches in charge of the medallists for the Rio Paralympics are R. Jaganathan, Mohd Faizol Harun and Mohd Syahrul Amri Suhaimi.

Under the NSC incentive scheme, a gold is worth RM1mil while silver will see the athletes taking home RM300,000.
