PETALING JAYA: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has married television personality Norashikin Abdul Rahman.
Selangor mufti Datuk Mohd Tamyes Abd Wahid performed the royal solemnisation ceremony at Masjid Istana Diraja in Istana Alam Shah, Klang, said the Sultan’s private secretary Datuk Mohamed Munir Bani in a statement yesterday.
The simple ceremony on Aug 31 was witnessed by Selangor deputy mufti Dr Anhar Opir, Imam Mohd Rasid Mahful and former Selangor deputy mufti Datuk Abdul Majid Omar.
State Islamic Religious Council (Mais) member Datuk Salehuddin Saidin and close family members from both sides were also present.
As requested by Tuanku, the ceremony was a modest affair.
Sultan Sharafuddin was born at Istana Jema’ah Klang (now Sultan Alam Shah Islamic College) on Dec 24, 1945.
He married Raja Zarina Raja Tan Sri Zainal in 1968. They divorced in 1986.
The Sultan then married Puan Nur Lisa Abdullah, an American, and they divorced in 1997. The Selangor Ruler has two daughters, Tengku Zerafina and Tengku Zatashah, from his first marriage.
The Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah is from his second marriage.
Norashikin, 45, from Kuala Lumpur, is the youngest of three siblings.
Known for her TV work, Norashikin clinched the Best TV News Presenter title at the Seri Angkasa Awards in 2005.
Norashikin, a former Malaysia Airlines stewardess, was married to Mustapha Kamal Halim, a pilot at Etihad Airlines. They have two children, Nur Amanda, 17 and Adam Salleh, 14.
