Siti Nordiana the favourite

PETALING JAYA: The popularity of singer Siti Nordiana (pic) among social media users has seen her getting the most nominations for the 2016 Online Choice Award (APO2016).

As of 11am on Wednesday, Siti Nordiana or Nana, 33, was the fans’ favourite with the highest number of nominations in the Online Choice Female Singer category.

Other artists also listed in the category are Dayang Nurfaizah, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, Ayda Jebat, Misha Omar, Yuna and Ella.

For the Online Choice Male Singer category, Akim Ahmad sits on top with Hazama.

Meanwhile, as of Wednesday, Shaheizy Sam and Ayda Jebat lead the Online Choice Actor and Online Choice Actress categories respectively.

Syarul Ridzwan showed a notable increase in nominations as he is placed in a strong position compared to Shaheizy, Aaron Aziz and Fattah Amin for Dnars Choice for Most Attractive Male.

Dnars Choice for Most Elegant Female at the moment is led by Mira Filzah while Zizan Razak is leading the pack in the Online Choice Celebrity Comedian category.

For Online Choice Group, Akim & The Majistret has the most nominations and Johan (Era FM) is the Online Choice Radio Presenter.


In the sports categories, Datuk Lee Chong Wei has the most nominations for the Online Choice Male Sports Star Athlete together with Datuk Nicol David who leads the Online Choice Female Sports Star.

In the running for the Online Choice Sports Team, football club Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) is the frontrunner.

Mia Ahmad was also picked for the Online Choice Fashion Icon category among social media users while Neelofa (Naelofar Hijab) was chosen for the Online Choice Young Trade Icon.

Bloggers nominated Siakap Keli for the Online Choice Blog while UiTM Penang lecturer Chef Azli has the most votes for the Online Choice Celebrity Chef category.

Amran Fans has the most nominations for thr Online Choice Social Media Celebrity.

Michael Fredericks, mStar product ­manager, said the huge response for Siti Nordiana and for categories involving artists were due to campaigns carried out by their respective fan clubs.

“In Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with hastag #APO2016, you can see that many are carried out by fan clubs that propel the artists to have high nominations,” he said.

Michael added that Siti Nordiana’s popularity also rose dramatically after she won the 2015 Vaganza Gegar.

The public can continue to nominate until March 30 so that their favourite celebrities can make it into the top five lists.

Nominations can be made at apo.mstar.com.my through their respective social media accounts.

Only one nomination is permitted for each social media account.

With the cooperation of Suria FM, APO2016 brings a digital glam theme and will be telecast on April 30 on TV2.

A total of 18 categories will be contested including a special category for Online Choice Best Personality selected based on the highest votes in all categories.
