Messing with the mind

VEGETABLES and fruits are supposed to be good for us. But could we actually be harming unborn babies and children with the greens mothers-to-be eat and that we feed our kids?

The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) went shopping and found “poisoned vegetable seeds”: “We bought common vegetable seeds like mustard greens, chives and lettuce from several shops in George Town and Butterworth. Most didn’t have labels and those that did, had labels in Chinese that were incomplete. When asked if the seeds had been treated with chemicals, all the shops said yes but they didn’t know what these were or the potential side effects,” CAP education officer N.V. Subbarow relates.
