KUALA TERENGGANU: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (pic) urged FAM president to act on the shameful performance of the national team and take action against those 'around him' in the association.

Khairy said that he has almost reached to a conclusion that those in FAM are not fit to be there.

"They should start asking themselves if they should be there and pretend like nothing had happened, even after such a shameful incident," he said when asked if those in FAM should resign.

Khairy said this at a press conference after launching the Terengganu state-level FitMalaysia Programme on Saturday.

Malaysia was annihilated 10-0 by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The defeat was the worst in the nation's football history after 50 years.

As a result, national coach Dollah Salleh resigned from his position as national head team coach and took full responsibility for the defeat.

Khairy said what Dollah did (to resign) was the correct thing as he was left with no other choice after a shameful performance but added that the problems faced by FAM does not end with Dollah's resignation.

He added that he would call for a meeting with FAM and have them deliver a detailed report of what actually happened.

"But if FAM keeps on pretending like nothing had happened and comes up with their recycled lame excuses then I am left with no choice but to carry out the last option, which is to ban FAM.

"Until today the Malaysian football has fallen to its lowest," he said.

Khairy added, as a minister, he has the jurisdiction to suspend FAM, but that will lead to FAM being suspended internationally.

"We can follow the footsteps of Indonesia who did the same. But if he had resorted to that, the Malaysian football team would not be able to participate in the 2017 SEA Games where Malaysia is the host,” he said

He also urged state FA and clubs to concentrate on development programmes instead of spending lots of money on the league and paying expensive wages to players.

"These same players, when it comes to performing on the international level, the result is zero," he said.
