IPOH: A school motivational trip for a group of students from Chemor here took a heartbreaking turn when one of the boys drowned in a resort's pond in Gopeng, roughly 29km from here.
Year Six student Muhammad Syahimi Adli Mohd Peredi, from SK Al Ummah, was found lifeless in the pond at around 4.30pm on Saturday.
Kampar OCPD Supt Ng Kong Soon said the victim had just finished exploring Gua Kandu when he returned to the resort with the group.
"The students were allowed to wash their feet and bathe in the pond.
"Shortly after, they noticed Muhammad Syahimi Adli had drowned there," he said.
Ng added that the police, firemen and doctors failed to resuscitate the boy.
"After the ambulance arrived at the scene and inspected his body, Muhammad Syahimi Adli was confirmed to have already passed away," he said.
The trip to Gopeng with 13 teachers and 105 other students, was meant to motivate the students for their upcoming Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) exams, said Ng.
The victim was sent to the Kampar Hospital for a post-mortem at 8.30pm on Sunday
