Stop it, PAS warns DAP

PETALING JAYA: PAS has told its coalition partner DAP to stop accu­sing the Islamist party of trying to form a unity government with Umno.

“The Syura Council has made our stand clear. My question is: how many seats will Umno give PAS if there is such cooperation? Forty seats?

“So stop making and spreading such claims,” PAS vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said in a statement yesterday.

He was responding to DAP advi­ser Lim Kit Siang’s remarks that Pakatan Rakyat was on the “brink of destruction” because a unity go­­vernment between PAS and Umno could become a real possibility in two weeks’ time.

The DAP veteran had claimed that there was a possibility of that happening if Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang was returned as president in the party elections early next month.

Tuan Ibrahim, who is vying for the deputy president’s post in the polls, said it was pointless for DAP to talk about strengthening Pakatan and insult PAS and its president at the same time.

He added that DAP must learn to accept differences of opinion within Pakatan and keep quiet if it had nothing positive to contri­bute.

“Otherwise, please do not blame us if our tahaluf (political cooperation) with DAP comes to an end,” he warned.

“This is because our party members will defend our core struggle, even more following the death of our spiritual leader Datuk Nik Ab­­dul Aziz Nik Mat,” said Tuan Ibra­him.
