Permatang Pauh by-election: Two candidates on PKR shortlist, says Wan Azizah

BUKIT MERTAJAM: PKR has shortlisted two candidates for the Permatang Pauh by-election, party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah revealed.

"The choice of candidates was also consented to by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's through lawyers, and also based on the party's consensus.

"The nomination of the candidate will be announced on Apr 24 night," she told reporters at a press conference on Saturday after launching the party's operation centre in Taman Samagagah.

The Permatang Pauh seat fell vacant after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is serving a five-year jail sentence for sodomy, lost his eligibility as a Member of Parliament when the Pardons Board rejected his appeal against his conviction.

Polling is set for May 7.
