Yemen turmoil: Third group of 94 Malaysians arrived home

Malaysian nationals, who were evacuated from Yemen, arriving at the KLIA on Saturday.

SEPANG: A third group of 94 Malaysians evacuated from Yemen have arrived home via Oman Air Flight WY 821.

The group, comprising mostly students, arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from Muscat at 11.35pm on Saturday.

The son of Kelantan Mentri Besar, Irsyad Abdul Hakim Ahmad, was among those evacuated.

Evacuee Dinie Hakal Ramyramza, 19, from Malacca, said most of the Malaysians were studying in Tarim, Hadhramaut Valley.

He said although the situation in the historic town was relatively safe, the students were asked to return home as the embassy in Tarim had been relocated to Muscat in Oman.

"We were told to come back in case there were problems with our visas or with our passports as the embassy had already been relocated," he told reporters at KLIA.

Muhd Amin and his wife Sarah Izzati.

Dinie Hakal had been studying in Yemen for a year.

Another student Muhd Amin Izammuddin, 22, said he was thankful that he had arrived safely in Malaysia.

"Thankfully, the situation in Tarim is safer compared to Aden," he told reporters.

Muhd Amin said the problems faced in Tarim included petrol shortage and not being able to withdraw money.

He said the Malaysian embassy was always in contact with the students in the seaport city of Aden.

Muhd Amin returned here together with his wife student Sarah Izzati Saiful, 20.

So far, 252 Malaysians, including the 94, had been brought home since April 7.
