BWF sets April 11 to hear Chong Wei’s case

KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has picked April 11 to decide on the fate of national shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei (pic).

Chong Wei is currently serving a suspension for a doping violation during the World Championships last August in Copenhagen after his urine sample was found to contain the banned substance dexamethasone.

A three-member panel will decide on the punishment, which could range from a three-month to two-year ban.

Chong Wei could also escape with a slap on his wrist if he can prove his innocence.

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) deputy president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria said that Chong Wei would go into the hearing with the best preparation.

“There has been a delay in this because we want to cover all aspects to make sure that Chong Wei gets the best assistance and support.

“The date has been fixed for April 11. We are hoping for the best outcome,” said Norza.

Chong Wei will be represented by London-based lawyer Mike Morgan.
