PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi released

PETALING JAYA: PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad was released early Monday on police bail after spending four hours under detention for unlawful assembly.

In his tweet, the Seri Setia assemblyman said he was released at 2am from the Jinjang central lock-up after having his statement recorded.

“Alhamdulillah selesai keterangan saya diambil. Saya telah dibebaskan sekitar 2pagi. Tk pada semua #KitaLawan #BebasAnwar #March2Freedom”.

Nik Nazmi was arrested at about 9.45pm Sunday from his home in Denai Alam and first taken to Dang Wangi before being sent to the Jinjang central lock-up.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad said he was arrested for the same offence as student activist Adam Adli, which is Section 141 of the Penal Code for unlawful assembly.

Both Nik Nazmi and Adam Adli were among protesters who gathered in front of the Sogo shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to rally against the sodomy conviction of Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Adam was arrested by several plainclothes policemen as the rally ended at 5.15pm. He was released on Sunday afternoon on police bail.

An attempt by police to arrest Nik Nazmi at the rally was, however, unsuccessful as the crowd had wrestled him out of the way.
