The structural defect that led to the death of a boy after falling from the sixth floor of a PPR flat block in Section 8, Kota Damansara.

PETALING JAYA: A five-year-old boy fell to his death from the sixth floor of a People’s Housing Projects (PPR) block in Section 8, Kota Damansara here, in a fatal game of chase with his older brother.

District police chief Asst Comm Azmi Abu Kassim said the child was playing in the corridor outside his flat unit when he fell through a gap between the railings at around 3.18pm Wednesday.

An ambulance rushed the child to Hospital Sungai Buloh where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The boy’s mother said she was preparing lunch for the family while her two children were playing outside their flat unit on the sixth floor.

“My seven-year-old son barged into the house and told me that his brother had fallen through the railings.

“My legs gave away after seeing his lifeless body sprawled on the ground,” she said in between tears.

The bereaved housewife said the child would be buried in Section 9, Kota Damansara by nightfall.

He was the youngest child among five siblings.

Meanwhile, security guard Zarina Johan, 52, recalled hearing a loud thud coming from upstairs as she was standing guard on the ground floor of the PPR block.

“I thought someone had thrown a large pile of rubbish from upstairs.

“I was so shocked to see the body of a boy lying on the spot where the sound came from,” she said.

Zarina alerted the boy’s mother upon finding out who the child was.

“I saw his mother falling to her knees upon reaching his body.

“This structural defect needs to be fixed immediately to prevent a similar incident from repeating itself,” she said.
