Pupils to resit two papers on Oct 9

PUTRAJAYA: Pupils will have to resit the Mathematics and Tamil exam papers of the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) on Oct 9.

The date was fixed after the Examinations Syndicate confirmed on Sunday that the papers – sat by students on Sept 10 – were leaked.

Education director-general Datuk Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof said the new date for the Mathematics and Tamil papers were decided after taking into account the Hari Raya Aidil Adha public holiday and logistics.

The resit is for Mathematics 015/1, 025/1 and 035/1 papers and Tamil 036 and 037 papers.

More than 470,000 pupils sat for the Mathematics paper while around 18,000 pupils took the Tamil paper.

Dr Khair said as the Education director-general, he apologised to the pupils, parents, teachers and everyone affected by the leaks and resit.

“I have directed all headmasters and teachers to identify pupils who are having difficulties because of the incident and to provide them with counselling.

“I am giving my assurance that there would be no repeat of leaks of public examination papers.

“Until yesterday (Sunday), those (Science, English, Mathematics and Tamil) are the only papers that were leaked,” he told a news conference here yesterday.

The Examinations Syndicate had earlier announced that pupils had to resit the UPSR Science and English papers on Sept 30.

The papers, which were to be held on the last day of the examination on Sept 11, were cancelled as they had been leaked via social media.

Pupils in national and vernacular schools will have to resit the Science papers.

Those in national schools will also have to resit the English papers on the same day.

However, vernacular school pupils were not affected by the English paper leak as they sat for a different English paper.
