PKR and DAP leaders not worried over Haron’s call

PETALING JAYA: PKR and DAP ­leaders have played down a call by the PAS deputy spiritual adviser for the Islamist party to review its ties with Pakatan Rakyat.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua said that despite the call by Datuk Haron Din, he was confident that most PAS members remained supportive of Pakatan’s principles.

“The muktamar is an internal process where all can air their views, so let them continue with their discussions,” he said.

Asked whether he was certain that Haron’s view would not be adopted as a formal stand by PAS, Tian Chua, who is Batu MP, said he did not want to pre-judge.

He said he trusted that PAS ­leaders as a whole believed in Pakatan and its principles.

DAP election strategist Ong Kian Ming admitted that he was troubled by any call that could weaken Pakatan, such as the one made by Haron.

“I am worried ... but they have a right to do so,” he said.

Ong, who is Serdang MP, said PAS leaders were free to make any ­recommendations during the muktamar.

“DAP leaders are also free to do the same (during party meetings) but I believe that most PAS leaders are still committed to Pakatan.”
