Father of Perak executive councillor laid to rest

AYER TAWAR: Mah Chow Nam, 69, the father of Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, was laid to rest at the Segari Chinese Cemetery near here on Tuesday afternoon.

The 49-year-old Dr Mah  who is Chenderiang assemblyman and Perak executive councillor is his eldest son.

Mah is survived by his wife, Lee Kee Hiong, 70, six children and 12 grandchildren.

Hundreds paid their last respect to him during the almost two hour funeral rites at his house in Kampung Baru Changkat Kruing here.

Mah, an oil palm smallholder, died of a heart attack at home last Friday.

Dr Mah, also a cardiologist by training, said his father had a major heart attack with acute pulmonary edema.

He said his father was a longstanding diabetic with his health conditions under control.

Dr Mah said  25% of diabetics were prone to silent heart attacks whereby there were no symptoms of heart problems prior to the attack.
