Reports: Flight MH198 bound for Hyderabad makes turn back


PETALINGJAYA: Malaysia Airlines Flight MH198 flying from Kuala Lumpur en route to Hyderabad, India, made a turn back, shortly after takeoff, according to reports. 

The plane landed safely at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang around 2am on Sunday. It had departed at 10.20pm on Saturday.

Initial reports suggest that the plane had to make an emergency landing after dumping fuel. 

A tweet by Flightradar24 said: Malaysian Airlines flight #MH198 holding and burning fuel after departure http://www.flightradar24.com/MAS198/451ce1e  Reason unknown.

Malaysia Airlines has lost two Boeing 777-200s. 

On July 17, Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board.

The Boeing 777-200 aircraft is believed to have been shot down over the troubled country.

A preliminary report by the Dutch Safety Board said the MH17 aircraft broke up in mid-air after being hit by "objects" at high velocity.

On March 8, Flight MH370 with 239 mostly Chinese people on board, disappeared about an hour into a journey from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak somberly announced that, according to fresh analysis of satellite data, the jet had ended its journey in the remote southern Indian Ocean.
