Lat’s latest compilation now out as ‘Forever Lat’

KUALA LUMPUR: The tickling and insightful takes on domestic and world affairs of renowned cartoonist Datuk Muhammad Nor Khalid, better known as Lat, have been compiled into a brand new book.

Titled Forever Lat, the graphic book features works published in news dailies as well as some unpublished and new ones.

“It’s been 50 years since I started drawing and I’m very happy to still be able to share my work with all Malaysians,” said Lat at the launch of his book at MPH Nu Sentral on Friday.

His work has won much praise locally, and many interna­tional accolades over the years. His humorous depictions of Malaysian life has touched the hearts of many, especially those growing up in the 1980s.

Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, who was presented with a personalised copy of the book at the launch, commended Lat’s contribution to the country’s creative scene.

“Lat’s power of storytelling transcends drawings and cartoons. His work embodies the essence of a multi-cultural society and has provided much insight into the socio-political life of Malaysians,” she added.

Also present at the launch was MPH Group chief operating officer Ng Tieh Chuan.

Ng said the launch of the book in time for National Day was significant.

“Lat’s books always remind us that a good sense of humour is what we need from time to time,” said Ng. MPH Group Publishing also issued reprints of Lat’s evergreen titles Kampung Boy, Town Boy and Kampung Boy: Yesterday And Today which were released together with the latest book.

Forever Lat is available at major bookstores at RM23.90 each.
