KUALA LUMPUR: The area of search for missing MH370 has been expanded and intensified in the coming days after three days of scouring the sea failed to confirm sightings of wreckage.

Department of Civil Aviation director-general Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said besides searching in waters between Malaysia and Vietnam, authorities were also searching on land in Malaysia and off western Malaysia.

He said the search would be widened due to the possibility of MH370 making a flight turn back.

The MAS flight with 239 people aboard lost contact with air traffic controllers early Saturday.
