Curry powder robbers escape with RM300,000

JOHOR BARU: A group of robbers threw curry powder at a security guard and a cashier of a moneychanger’s outlet here before escaping with nearly RM300,000.

The guard was also stabbed in the 4.40pm incident yesterday.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh said the two victims had just parked their car after visiting a bank and were heading back to the outlet near the Larkin Terminal when they were attacked by the robbers.

“The four masked men cornered the victims. Three of them threw curry powder at the victims’ faces.

“One of suspects then stabbed the security guard in the waist before grabbing two bags containing RM297,045,” he said yesterday.

ACP Sulaiman added that the security guard was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital and is in stable condition.

He also said two suspects were detained several hours after the incident.

He urged witnesses to call the police hotline at 07-221 2999.

Last month, four robbers hijacked a van transporting cigarettes here by smashing the window and throwing curry powder at the driver’s face.

The four men, who were in a Toyota Vios, stopped the van at Taman Gaya, Ulu Tiram here while it was on its way to deliver cigarettes to customers.

They dragged out the driver, who was in pain, before taking over the wheel. The driver’s assistant managed to escape to safety.

The robbers then drove off with the van containing RM42,414.15 worth of cigarettes, a cheque for RM7,676.35 and RM1,800 in cash.
