PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim will be asked to explain the full details of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Selangor Government and the Federal Government over the Langat 2 water treatment project.
PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said the Mentri Besar would be summoned to brief Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim once he returns from Japan.
“We want to hear Khalid’s side of the story as many are still in the dark about the details. We are concerned over whether there would be an increase in water tariff prices and whether there would still be free water for Selangor,” he said yesterday.
Anwar’s official Facebook page showed that the Permatang Pauh MP is currently in Japan.
It has been reported that several PKR leaders were not informed before the state signed the memorandum on the water restructuring exercise while it is unclear if Khalid has the backing of the top Pakatan Rakyat leaders over the deal.
Azmin, who is also Selangor PKR chief, said the party lawyers would be consulted to make sure the deal went hand-in-hand with the Opposition’s policies.
“We still need further clarification,” he said.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, however, said he had been informed that Khalid was preparing to make a presentation on the restructuring exercise to all Pakatan leaders.
“I know he will be briefing all Pakatan leaders within the next couple of days,” he said, adding that various Pakatan leaders had asked for more information on the water issue.
“I think an effort to present the full picture is very much welcome,” said Fahmi.
