Hishamuddin to be discharged from hospital, vows to quit smoking

KUALA LUMPUR: Having missed the Umno Annual General Assembly 2013 after being admitted to hospital, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has expressed his regret, vowing to adopt a healthier lifestyle and quit smoking.

"I followed the developments of the assembly through the social media and friends who came to visit who shared the antics of the debate participants with me. I miss the anecdotes at the assembly," the Umno vice president said.

He was admitted to a private hospital Monday and was recuperating from an angioplasty procedure for coronary artery blockage.

Appearing to be in a cheerful mood, he spent about 45 minutes at the hospital cafeteria to enjoy a cup of coffee.

"This is my first coffee since being warded in this hospital on Monday," he said.

His wife Datin Seri Tengku Marsila Tengku Abdullah and their two sons, Faris, 22, and Fahd, 15, were by his side.

Hishammuddin, 52, said he would likely be discharged Monday with advice from the doctor to take some time to fully recover.

"I regret having to undergo this situation. I'll quit smoking and practise a healthier lifestyle," he said.

He said he was also eager to return home and await the birth of his first grandchild from eldest daughter Nasya Alyssa any time now. - Bernama
