NO country, state or person should have a right of ownership over heritage food, according to Universiti Malaya (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences) lecturer Maimuna Hamid Merican.
Stating that it is “absolutely absurd” for anyone to claim ownership of food, she asks: “Why are certain quarters so caught up with this ridiculous ‘game of ownership’? Are they using the law for economic gains or is it an indication of rising insecurities?”
