IPOH: Barisan Nasional's youngest candidate Daniel Wa Wai Ho (pic) is all prepared for the long battle as the MCA candidate for the Keranji state seat.
At the tender age 25, the bespectacled candidate with an economics degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia is unfazed by the challenges ahead.
“It's not about how young a candidate is. What's important is that I have the passion to work for the people,” he said during the unveiling of the state Barisan line-up.
“And I'll work hard to bring changes to the constituency,” vowed the fresh-faced Wa.
Dismissing his age as a barrier, Wa, the personal assistant to Kampar incumbent MP Datuk Lee Chee Leong, said he was prepared to stand against anyone from Pakatan Rakyat.
Wa, who is originally from Bentong, said he had carried out a lot of groundwork in Kampar since he started working under Lee in 2010.
“We are working hard in the district and I hope the people will see our efforts. I hope the people, especially the youths, voting this time will think carefully about who they want to represent them,” said Wa, whose grandmother is from Malim Nawar near Kampar.
Another young candidate, MCA's 29-year-old Ting Tai Fook, is enthusiastic about the possibility of wresting the Sitiawan state seat away from Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham.
“The tiger is in its den but I think I can defeat him. I have gone down to the ground daily and the people who need help see me every day,” said Ting, adding that he was a familiar face among the constituents.
“He (Ngeh) is famous because of his name but he has not touched the people like I have. I have also been actively involved with their social and religious events,” he pointed out.
Pledging to work hard to ensure more job opportunities, particularly for the youths in the constituency, Ting said he wanted to bring in more vocational training institutes.
“This will benefit youths who have completed their secondary school studies,” said Ting, who is the personal assistant to Lumut incumbent MP Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.
Ting has a Masters in Human Resources Management from Universiti Utara Malaysia.
