KUALA LUMPUR: Mualaf, the film by the late Yasmin Ahmad, bagged the Best Film award at the Anugerah Skrin TV3 2010 at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur last night.
Sharifah Amani picked up the Best Actress award for her role in Mualaf, while Bront Palarae walked away with the Best Actor award for his performance in Belukar.
Sharifah Amani, who expressed surprise over winning the award, thanked Yasmin in a tearful acceptance speech.
“My thanks and gratitude go out to Yasmin Ahmad,” Sharifah said.
Later, speaking to reporters, she said: “It is a night of surprises. There are many talented people out there and the competition is getting tougher, so I’m truly honoured to receive this award.”
Earlier this month, Yasmin had won the Best Director award for Mualaf at the 54th Asia Pacific Film Festival in Taipei.
The movie depicts the story of three individuals searching for peace through religion.
The film Evolusi KL Drift, directed by Syamsul Yusof and in which he also starred with Fasha Sandha, Farid Kamil and Aaron Aziz, won two awards – Best Screenplay for Film and Best Supporting Actor in a Film.
Nur Kasih won the Best Drama series award and Antara Garisan bagged four awards – for Best Actress in a Drama, Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, Best Drama and Best Screenplay.
There was a loud applause for Shaheizy Sam when he was announced as winner of the Anugerah Khas Juri award.
“I had no expectations when I came for this event.
“I’m truly honoured and I want to do better, even more for my fans,” he smiled.
The Anugerah Khas Juri award is given to a person who can be an example to others and is seen as a great potential for the industry.
