KUALA LUMPUR: The banned Hindraf movement has suspended its 10 national and state coordinators, with immediate effect, pending a restructuring exercise.
The former coordinators were now instructed to refrain from issuing statements in Hindraf’s name, though they were free to voice personal opinions, the movement’s London-based chairman P. Waytha Moorthy said in statement.
In the interim, urgent matters would be handled by a three-member interim committee.
“Hindraf’s struggle has entered a new phase after the situation in the country has qualitatively changed since Nov 25, 2007.”
He said that the needs and expectations of the Indian committee had developed beyond the initial demands and the seeking the release of Hindraf’s lawyers held under ISA.
