Nazrin named Perak Regent


KUALA KANGSAR: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, appointed Raja Muda of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah as the Regent of Perak at a special ceremony held at Istana Iskandariah here yesterday. 

The appointment will be effective from today until a date to be determined later. 

Present were Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Bainun, Raja Puan Besar of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja di-Hilir Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and Raja Puan Muda of Perak Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah. 

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali, his wife Datin Seri Kamariah Mokri and state executive councillors were also in attendance.  

Raja Nazrin had served as the Regent when Sultan Azlan Shah was the ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 1989 to 1994. 

Raja Dr Nazrin, 52, the eldest child of Sultan Azlan Shah and Tuanku Bainun, was proclaimed the Raja Muda of Perak on April 15, 1984, two weeks after Sultan Azlan Shah was installed as the Sultan of Perak. 

Born in Penang on Nov 27, 1956, Raja Nazrin holds a PhD in Political Economy and Government from Harvard University. – Bernama
