Jay Chou gig to kickstart new year

KUALA LUMPUR: Asia’s King of R & B Jay Chou is set to take Malaysia by storm once again after a sold-out performance here three years ago. 

The 28-year-old Taiwanese said he was excited to perform again for his local fans. “I love the country, the people and especially the food,” he said. 

Jay Chou World Tour 2008 – Live in Malaysia will be held at Stadium Merdeka at 8pm on Feb 23.

“It will be a great show. Expect remarkable visual effects, stage performance and groundbreaking audio effects in this show. This is definitely a highly anticipated concert to kickstart the new year,” said the organiser Galaxy Group managing director Alan Chan. 

Trained in classical music, Chou combines Chinese and Western music styles to produce songs that fuse R&B, rock and pop genres, covering issues such as domestic violence, war, and urbanisation. 

He released his first album titled Jay in 2000 and has since released an album a year, selling several million copies each.  

Chou achieved stardom in 2001 with the release of his second album Fantasy that yielded numerous hits such as Silence, Can’t Speak, Black Humour and Tornado among others.  

His following albums Eight Dimensions, Ye Hui Mei, Common Jasmin Orange, November’s Chopin and Still Fantasy generated award-winning hits and achieved record-breaking double platinum status for album sales.  

Chou’s latest music release On The Run is set to take the world by storm.  

His other accolades include Best Newcomer Actor in Golden Horse Awards for his role in Initial D (2005) and Best Supporting Actor by Hong Kong Film Awards for Curse of the Golden Flower (2006).  

His latest flick Kung Fu Dunk is slated for release on Feb 7.
