ntv7 airs English news at prime time

SHAH ALAM: Private station ntv7 has started to air its English bulletin – 7 Edition – at 8pm since yesterday, making it the only station to air the English news during prime time.

Chief operating officer Amrin Awaluddin said this would attract and capture a new market of viewers, catering mainly to urban family households and those aged 25 and above.

In his speech at the launching of the programme, he said the station also planned to have its news available and accessible through new media platforms, such as the web and handheld devices.

Energy, Water and Communications Ministry content and postal division undersecretary Dr Wan Mahidin Wan Kadir represented Minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik at the event.

Dr Lim, in his speech read out by Dr Wan Mahidin, said the traditional media still played a pivotal, gate-keeping and interpretive role.

“This is why TV news audiences expand substantially when a major news story breaks.”
